PKF launches programme to empower female leaders in sports management

The President Kaljulaid Foundation (PKF) is launching ‘Her Turn’, a Europe-wide project focused on advancing gender equality and leadership opportunities for women in sports.

“Sport is a unique field that unites people of all ages, nationalities, and genders. Yet, sports leadership today remains largely male-dominated,” said Triin Adamson, Head of Sports Programmes at the President Kaljulaid Foundation. A recent report by the European Commission found that only 14% of leaders in European sports federations are women — a figure that has remained largely unchanged over the past decade.

“To advance women’s leadership in sport, we need more visible role models, mentors, and professional networks. By creating equal opportunities, we can make the sports sector stronger and more dynamic,” Adamson added.

Creating new opportunities in sports is one of the three key focus areas of the President Kaljulaid Foundation. “We believe a sporty lifestyle should be the norm—it’s the best foundation for a long and healthy life. Our focus is on ensuring equal opportunities in sports and using knowledge to open new doors,” said Adamson.

Her Turn will bring together 50 ambitious women leaders in sport from across Europe, offering them a comprehensive programme that includes international training in leadership and sports management, the creation of a personal growth plan, and one-on-one mentorship. Participants will gain practical skills, valuable insights, and strong professional networks to help them advance to leadership and decision-making roles within sports organisations.

Applications for the programme will open in January 2026, with the first group starting in March 2026. The project will last until autumn 2027 and is implemented by the President Kaljulaid Foundation in cooperation with Miltton and Out of the Box International. The initiative is co-funded by the European Commission Erasmus+ programme.
