Democracy Academy by the President Kaljulaid Foundation is an inspiring five-session programme for young Estonians aged 15–19 who wish to play a more active role in public life. It combines leadership development and civic engagement training with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of how our state and society function, while also providing a space for collaboration and co-creation around the issues that matter most to young people themselves.
Democracy works best when every voice is heard. When young people are absent from public debate and decision-making, society loses valuable ideas, energy and the courage to ask different questions. This affects not only the political decisions made today, but also directly shapes Estonia’s future.
The aim of the Democracy Academy is to strengthen participants’ leadership skills and civic engagement, while creating opportunities to discuss the state of democracy in Estonia, politics, media and broader societal developments. We provide a platform for the next generation of leaders to grow, connect and develop the skills needed to help shape Estonia’s future.
The programme runs for six months and consists of five two-day modules. Each module features inspiring speakers and discussions, opportunities to acquire new knowledge, and practical activities designed to develop leadership, collaboration and responsibility, while also creating space to connect with peers and enjoy the experience together.
Participation in the Academy is free of charge for all participants.
