Her Turn – Programme for Female Sports Leaders

Sport is a unique field that brings together people of different ages, nationalities, and genders. However, sports leadership today continues to be male-dominated. A recent review by the European Commission revealed that only 14% of leaders in European sports federations are women — a figure that has not significantly changed over the past decade.

The career progression of female sports leaders is often hindered by the lack of role models, mentors, and professional networks. The absence of equal opportunities limits innovation and development across the entire sports sector.

Her Turn is a pan-European project designed to support women working in sports leadership. The programme provides participants with practical knowledge, skills, and networks that help them advance to management and decision-making levels within sports organisations.

Through the project, we will bring together 50 ambitious female sports leaders from across Europe to offer them a professional development programme.

Project activities include:

  • Leadership and sports management training, covering topics such as strategic planning, communication, gender equality in sports, and inclusive decision-making;

  • Development of a personal career plan, helping participants set goals and map their professional growth;

  • Mentorship, where experienced sports leaders and experts guide participants and share their knowledge;

  • An international networking platform, creating opportunities to connect and exchange experiences with professionals from different countries.

The aim of the project is to promote gender balance in sports leadership by supporting, empowering, and encouraging the professional development of women in sports management.

Applications for the programme will open in January 2026, and the first group will be launched in March 2026.

The project will be implemented by the President Kaljulaid Foundation in cooperation with Miltton and Out of the Box International during 2025–2027. It is funded by the European Commission’s Erasmus+ programme.
